Your message for Citibank:To the complain department.
I am very upset with Citibank as promised in the last year promotion on

the “introduce a friend rewards”. Me and my friend Lim Kim Chi work
hard
and supposed to get a notebook after introducing 18 person to this
program but only 8 person are approved. The rest are rejected for no
reason? Even the one with Platinum card? Is this just to attract people

to introduce friends but limit the rewards.
We even deliver all the forms ourselves to the Citibank HQ and
requested
for chop sign receive.
Hope there is an explaination on why we are not getting the notebook
and
why the other 10 person was rejected. Maybe Citibank isn’t genuine with

their rewards though.

Were you treated unfairly before? If you are, then say it out!

A friend of mine has created a blog which records any cases of unfairness that he encounters. Although he has just started this blog, but I think his idea of creating such blog is good and useful.

Below is a post of his latest unfairness encounter

Date: 25th December 2007
Restaurant: Kenny Rogers
Location: QueensBay Mall, Penang
Country: Malaysia

X’Mas, 25th December 2007. This was the worst experience I having in Queensbay Mall Kenny Rogers. Before this, I had been visit the restaurant for many times and their service was so good and professional. However, during Christmas night, I went there for dinner. The restaurant was not so clouded and 50% of table still empty. Thus I decide to go in since their service was fast and professional. OK, story begins with the waitress who takes order. I ask for 1 set of half chicken, make it separate in two plates, 1 for chicken and another 1 for sidelines. However, she looks like not so understand and repeat with Malay, then I told her in Malay that I don’t like the mushroom sauce for chicken mix with the Coleslaw. She said OK, understand. Then who know they still serve me with the whole things mix in one plate. I plan not to argue with them since I know that no point to argue. I just smile to the guys and ask for 1 more empty plate. The sauce they given was not enough since I had order half chicken. I try to raise my hand but no one can see me. Finally I manage to get a white shirt gals to order the extra sauces(FYI, all other waitress are wearing black colour shirt), I suppose that should be their manager. I wait for 10 minutes still never get the original sauce, thus I try to raise my hand to the waitress. 80% of the waitress are damn free and surrounded together and making jokes. I walk straight to the food counter and ask for the sauce. The white shirt gal come to me and said: “Sorry, the bowl finish, need to wait for them to wash”. But the gal in food counter said: “Oh, we still have many bowls here, at counter”! Damn stupid, if that is a manager, I think no point to complaint! OK, after finish my food, the male waitress just come to clean up my table, without asking me: “May I clear the table please, Sir?”. This is basic table manners that have to be asked before removing customer plates! Even during the plate was clean up, the culinary(knife) drop near to my foot! The guy just pickup and walk away! Never apologize!

Are these worth for 10% SERVICE CHARGE? If anyone from Kenny Rogers management are reading this BLOG, please! Train your people before they make more customers run away! Don’t forget your competitor (Nando’s) is just next to you and their service is getting better.

That’s not a service at all. Totally nonsense! If that happened to me, I’ll get mad, very mad mad
Because I’m not the kind of person who can tolerate with bad service, and I’m very serious about this issue.

By the way, it’s good that he has created a blog to write on. This can give us a precaution on certain services provided around us.

Goods sold are not returnable? Is it true?

This is an interesting email I received today. I’m not sure if it’s true, but hopefully I can find it out sooner or later.

Legal Issue on Contract Law in Malaysia

This is something I like to share with you from one of my seminar recently. It was conducted by A/P Catherine Tay on Legal issues in E-commerce.

Notice that most of the time, the receipt / invoice you received from the merchant carries this exclusion clause or similarly worded statement: “Goods sold are not returnable” or “No refund once sold”.

The thing that I have learned from her is that: ” As long as your good is purchased for home use and not for business (i.e. to be resold), the above exclusion clause is VOID.

That means, as long as the good is defective, regardless of what is worded; you CAN get back all your money spent.. You do not have to accept a repair on the good or an exchange. You CAN ask for a refund. AND you are LEGALLY right and entitled to! What a r elevation!!

And most of the times the merchant will refuse to return you your money.

Her advice? >From her own experience (and no less than 7 and all successful!), she will threaten the merchant with four words: “SEE YOU IN COURT!”

The court here refers to the Small Claims Tribunal Court.

However, you don’t have to tell them what court! All you have to pay is RM10 admin fee and the loser (the merchant) will have to refund you the money PLUS the admin fee!

She shared this with us because she felt that even educated people are cowed by such unfair wording (which includes her jaded friends who are not lawyers).

Pls try not to let the merchant fleece you the next time you have a defective good.

I know where to file this. On the 16th floor of Putra Place (The Mall opposite Putra World Trade Centre). The form cost RM5.00. The Tribunal will settle within 2 months period.

Shell Citibank Credit Card-things you don’t know(but you think you know)

Shell Citibank Credit Card - A Cash Draining Card

I received an email about some details/truth of Shell Citibank Credit Card. This may create some awareness to whom who wishes to apply one. The Shell Citibank Credit Card has launched for quite some time now in Malaysia and I believe you have seen gigantic posters of ads if you pump at Shell stations.

Shell Citibank Credit Card banner

I have never trusted a newly launched product until I made some researches and read the term and conditions. I have a few credit cards (including a Citibank Visa), and I understand some ‘gimmick’ or marketing skills used by company to promote their products. I have my bad encounters and worst experiences before.

Source: http://smartconsumerbanking.com/
A discovery made by a marketing manager.

Are you fancy of getting a credit card that offers 5% rebate on shell petrol and 1.5% rebate on other purchases?

If your answer is yes, then you are draining your money away!

The newly launched Shell Citibank credit card is not as good as its sounds - to enjoy the rebate, you must have a carry forward balance. Yes, a carry forward balance that you have to pay Citibank 18% interest per annum. But that is not all, your so called ‘rebate’ is based on your current month spending. That means if you have a carry forward of RM10,000 but did not use the card at all for the current month, you get ‘zero’ rebate.

To be precise, this ‘rebate’ card is an old card - it has been around for about 2 years. But now taking advantage of the fuel cost concern, Citibank co-branded it with Shell.

This is how the rebate scheme works:

* First, you need to have a carry forward balance. The amount of that carry forward determines the rebate rate (%) that the card holder is getting.

* Then based on your current month spend, you will get the rebate (as shown by the rebate table above) - your rebate is not based on your total carry forward balance. Repeat: your rebate is not based on your total carry forward balance, but current month spending

In short, to get your ‘rebate’ you must have at least of RM2,000 outstanding balance in you card AND continue use the card. The outstanding balance is the net of previous month balance minus current month payment. If you do that, every month you will be paying RM30.00, or RM360 a year for the minimum RM2,000 outstanding balance.

Let’s do a simple math here:

If you spend RM500/mth on shell petrol and your classic card has a RM2,000 outstanding balance, at 1.5%, you are getting RM7.50 as ‘rebate’, while at the same time, paying RM30.00 for the interest. The ‘nett’ profit for Citibank is RMRM22.50. Your are essentially “over paying” 4 times the price (30/7.5)

To ‘break even’ (so that your RM30.00 interest payment = rebate value), you need to pump RM2,000 shell petrol a month, or charge RM6,000 a month for non-shell related purchases.

The USD100.00 per barrel of crude oil won’t kill you, but the Citi-Shell card will.
